The project includes three primary components: affordable workforce/family housing, community support services within the community building and an adjacent, contiguous commercial space that has been programmed for additional services for both project residents and citizens of Arcata.
Sorrel Place is a forty-four (44) multifamily residential unit property in a four-story structure with common area amenities on the ground floor, including an elevator, service lobby area with USPS mailboxes, an exercise room, laundry room, bike storage room, outdoor patio, children’s playground, community kitchen & a community game room. The units consist of sixteen (16) one-bedroom units, approximately 609 square feet, sixteen (16) two bedroom units of approximately 835 square feet, one two bedroom on‐site manager’s unit of 959 square feet, and eleven (11) three bedroom units of approximately 1,110 square feet. These forty-four (44) residential units are located on all four floors of the structure, with ground floor units provided with patios and upstairs units provided with spacious private space balconies, partially covered for climate. In the larger two- and three-bedroom units’ exterior balconies are provided with small, lockable storage closets. The approximately 900 square foot ground floor, common area community space, is designed to contain a common resident area with resident manager office, restrooms, and seating areas adjacent to indoor, appropriately placed, game tables. Directly adjacent to this programmed space is a three to four station ADA accessible exercise room for resident utilization.
The fifteen (15) parking spaces required by local code requirements have been placed at the southeastern portion of the site adjacent to the community space and adjacent commercial services space. Accessible parking stalls and associated ramps and sidewalks are programmed into the site circulation system. Bicycle parking for residents and guests are provided at the exterior of the structure, in conformance with local standards. In addition, all residents have access to a room within the structure that provides secure bike storage.
